About the Farm
Background
The idea for the farm evolved organically over more than a decade as members of the Tsogyelgar Buddhist Community explored ways to live creatively and according to Buddha's teaching on Right Livelihood. Initially, members enjoyed working in a collective kitchen garden, learning the best methods of organic gardening through trial and error. Over time, they developed skills in cheese making, bread making, pastry, and botanical skincare. In 2011, the farm, bakery, and creamery businesses were officially started, beginning with a small table at a farmer's market. The farm has since grown, making significant donations to Food Gatherers and supporting other farmers, especially during the pandemic.
Practices
The farm employs the latest advances in organic and sustainable farming methods, ensuring that all animals are treated with dignity and love. They emphasize mindfulness and compassion in their farming practices. The farm also grows immune-boosting microgreens, uses 100% organic regional flour for baking, and produces handcrafted artisan cheese. Botanical ingredients for their skincare products are grown on the farm.
The Rest
Each year, the farm donates thousands of pounds of produce to Food Gatherers to help create food security for the community. They offer a variety of products including microgreens, artisan cheese, breads, pastries, and botanical skincare products. Customers can purchase these items online or at their farm cart. The farm also participates in local farmer's markets in Ann Arbor and Detroit.
