Zanjabil Gardens

Zanjabil Gardens, a small 5-acre start-up farm, is transitioning to organic farming. The farm aims to address several critical issues such as health crises, climate change, food security, and rural revitalization by rebuilding local food systems. The farm is designed to serve as a model for the 'Farm In a Box©' system, which can be replicated to help others move into small farming.

Utilizing a combination of old methods rediscovered, such as biochar, and modern techniques like computerized farm management and SPIN (Small Plot INtensive) production/marketing methods, the farm maintains perpetual fertility through mixed species cover cropping, a ten-year crop rotation, and Albrecht (Base Saturation) mineral balancing. These practices ensure the production of tasty, healthy, and nutritionally dense vegetables and fruits while reducing pest and disease pressure.

The farm's approach includes automated crop planning and farm management software to assist in decision-making, ensuring profitability and sustainability. The SPIN approach aids in land allocation, post-harvest processing, and crop pricing, helping the farm choose the right markets and achieve the best prices for its produce.
