About the Market
Background
Established in 1990, the Longmont Farmers' Market began as a small gathering of eight farmers and has grown over seventeen years into a well-organized family of approximately 60 participants, including professional farmers, weekend farmers, backyard gardeners, hobbyists, and teenagers working small plots.
Practices
The market features a variety of farming practices, including conventional methods and certified organic growing. All items marketed as 'organic' are grown on farms certified by the State of Colorado.
The Rest
Visitors can find a wide variety of Colorado-grown produce, unique items like golden beets and purple beans, tree-ripe fruits from Western Slope orchards, fresh and dried flowers, bedding plants, homemade scented soaps, potpourri, wreaths, farm-fresh eggs, honey, roasted chilies, and prepared food and drinks. The market serves as a community hub, offering educational opportunities about growing practices, crop seasons, and cooking tips, and is held at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.
