About the Farm

Background

Backporch Produce was originally formed in 2013 on leased property in East Otto, NY. Woman-owned and operated by Cheri Liddle, the farm has grown in size and moved to its own property in Centerville, NY/Farmersville Station, NY in 2016. The farm has expanded its operations to include 4 high tunnels for year-round growing, a new barn with an on-farm commercial kitchen built in 2020, and a farm store open to the public. In 2021, 400 elderberry bushes were planted for a future u-pick field, and the commercial kitchen opened to great success. By 2023, their Elderberry Syrup was approved as shelf-stable and state-approved.

Practices

Backporch Produce uses organic-approved growing methods and has applied to be Certified Naturally Grown. The farm operates with a focus on sustainable practices, including the use of high tunnels for year-round growing and pastured chickens for egg production.

The Rest

The farm offers a variety of products through its online store, including Elderberry Syrup, Elderberry Balsamic Vinegar, wool dryer balls, homemade pot pies, pierogi, fudge, peanut brittle, jam, and chocolate-dipped buckeyes. The farmstore will reopen in April 2024, and CSA registration for the 2024 season begins on December 15, 2023. The farm also plans to open a small winery in 2024, featuring Elderberry, Strawberry Mint, and Cider Apple wines.
