About the Farm
Background
Benham Farms has been in the family since the early 1800s, with eight generations growing up on the land. In the 70s and 80s, it was a small diversified conventional farm raising horses, pigs, and angora goats, along with a large garden and a roadside stand. The farm was rented out for conventional corn and soy farming in the 90s. After nearly 25 years, the current generation has returned to revive and transform the farm.
Practices
The farm is in the process of converting to a diverse, sustainable operation with a focus on perennials, pasture-raised meats, and organically grown produce. Emphasis is placed on building the health and wealth of the soil, ensuring long-term ecological balance and productivity.
The Rest
Farm tours and internships are available during the growing season, offering visitors a chance to engage with the farming process and learn about sustainable agriculture.
