About the Farm
Background
Jim and Clodia Jett have been around bees most of their lives, but it wasn't until the mid-1990s that beekeeping became a substantial part of their lives. After a year in South Dakota helping a family friend with his commercial beekeeping business, Jim returned to Texas to start his own beekeeping adventure. Clodia joined him after retiring from over 30 years in public education. Their daughter and son-in-law, Hailey and Cole, moved back to East Texas in 2021 to help keep the farm running.
Practices
The farm focuses on beekeeping, producing various types of honey including regular, cinnamon, and jalapeno creamed honey. They also cultivate blackberries, blueberries, and a few fruit trees. The farm emphasizes hands-on education with customers, particularly about their unique honey products.
The Rest
Big Creek Farms is located an hour north of Houston in Shepherd, Texas. They sell their products at local farmers markets, rodeos, and events throughout Texas and occasionally in Louisiana. The farm is a family affair, with Jim and Clodia's granddaughter enthusiastically helping with honey orders and product testing.
