About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2013 by Alex and Jennifer Jones in Bells, Texas, Blackwood Fold started on 11.5 acres and has expanded to 23 acres. The name 'Blackwood' is derived from land owned in Scotland, and 'fold' comes from the Old Saxon 'faled,' meaning an enclosure for domestic animals.
Practices
The homestead raises a variety of animals including pigs and poultry, focusing on providing a humane way of life. Most animals are pasture-raised, with rabbits kept secure due to predators. Local hay, produce, and occasionally their own produce are used to supplement the livestock's diet. Animals and eggs are antibiotic and hormone-free when they leave the farm, with such treatments used only when necessary for the animal's well-being.
