About the Farm

Background

Community Crops began with a single community garden in 2003 and has since expanded to include 11 community garden sites, a training farm, a production greenhouse, and various educational programs. In 2023, it became a program of Family Service Lincoln, maintaining its staff and programming from a new administrative office. The organization supports numerous volunteers and farmers, aiming to inspire local food growth and cultural change.

Practices

All food is grown using sustainable methods, with plans to become Certified Naturally Grown. The training farm, Prairie Pines Community Farm, hosts over eight farms in addition to staff production. The organization emphasizes education and hands-on experiences in sustainable agriculture, providing training and support to beginning and refugee farmers.

The Rest

Community Crops sells vegetables at Farmers' Markets and through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Funds raised support beginning farmers and help grow the project. The organization also manages community gardens throughout Lincoln, where produce is used by the families growing it. The CSA program primarily features products from refugee farmers in the Yazidi community, offering a variety of in-season produce.
