About the Farm
Background
Fisher Farm, located in Winterport, Maine, has been growing and marketing organic produce since 1996. The farm is run by Rose, Joe, and Dennis Fisher, along with Beth Haines, who was inspired to farm after a transformative apprenticeship experience. Beth earned a BS in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Maine in 1999. The farm is known for its high-quality, delicious food and its commitment to the community's health and safety.
Practices
Fisher Farm emphasizes the importance of starting with healthy soil to produce high-quality food. They grow a diverse array of vegetables and cut flowers on 4 acres, adhering to organic farming principles certified by MOFGA. The farm also raises laying hens and a small flock of pasture-raised broilers. Environmental, economic, and social impacts are considered in every farming decision.
The Rest
Fisher Farm operates a 100-member CSA and participates in Bangor's year-round European Farmers Market and Bar Harbor's Eden Farmers Market. They offer an apprenticeship program to educate the next generation of organic farmers, providing hands-on experience in planting, weeding, harvesting, and marketing. The farm also hosts a seedling sale in May, featuring over 80 varieties of organically grown vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings.
