About the Farm

Background

Located in the heart of Carpenter, Good Hope Farm has been in production for over 100 years. Originally owned by the A.M. Howard family, many of the buildings date back to the early 20th century and are part of the Carpenter National Register Historic District. The Town of Cary purchased the farm in 2008 to preserve a portion of Carpenter’s agricultural past. Today, the farm is leased by the Piedmont Conservation Council to provide land access to a new generation of farmers.

Practices

Good Hope Farm licenses plots ranging from 0.25 to 2 acres to new and expanding farmers, providing all necessary equipment and infrastructure on site. The farm features a demonstration garden and offers agricultural and nutritional educational programming. The collaborative efforts of the Town of Cary and four non-profit organizations ensure that the farm remains a hub for local agriculture.

The Rest

Public access to Good Hope Farm is limited to scheduled events, such as farm workdays and tours. The farm also hosts monthly volunteer workdays and markets produce through various channels, including a farm CSA. Support from organizations like Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District, WithersRavenel, and the Pentair Foundation has been crucial to the farm's success.
