About the Farm

Background

Owners Tim and Grace Lukens began their journey in 1999 with two goats, initially to secure milk and dairy products in case of the Y2K bug. When the anticipated crisis did not occur, they started making goat milk soap, which they sold at the Bellingham Farmers Market. The success of their soap led to the creation of goat milk lotion, and soon they were receiving letters from customers praising the products for alleviating skin problems. This marked the beginning of their business, which they named Grace Harbor Farms.

Practices

The farm adheres to organic-style farming practices, ensuring that animals have pasture access and grass to graze on, weather permitting. They believe in stewardship of the land and animals, maintaining their health and happiness. Their dairy products are made from True Whole Milk with an average of 4.5% butterfat, without separating the cream or homogenizing the milk. This approach avoids the need to add synthetic vitamins. All products are vat pasteurized and ready to eat. The farm uses breeds known for their A2 beta casein protein, although they are not certified.

The Rest

Grace Harbor Farms offers a variety of products including kefir, European-style yogurts, chocolate milk, and goat milk. They emphasize the absence of artificial flavors or gums in their products. The cows, primarily Jersey and Guernsey breeds, are pastured whenever possible and fed fresh silage from the farm's fields. The farm currently sells only within Washington State but is working on obtaining permits to expand. They also source some of their goat milk from a neighboring farm.
