About the Farm
Background
After years in the restaurant and fine wine business, Tamer and Claire Harpke founded their urban farm in 2013. Tamer's passion for traditional farming grew from his experiences working grape harvests in Italy. Both Harpkes have backgrounds in Hospitality Management and fine dining, which they leverage in their farm operations. The farm's products are featured at Basil Park, a health-conscious restaurant owned by Tamer, where organic waste is also composted.
Practices
The farm integrates composting practices by utilizing organic waste from Basil Park, with an estimated 24 tons of organic matter composted annually. They are early members of the Growing Broward movement and supporters of the Slow Food organization, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable and community-focused farming methods.
The Rest
Future plans include outreach programs, educational partnerships, a table-to-farm dinner series, a consumer lecture series, and apprenticeships.
