About the Farm
Background
Selling strawberries marked the beginning of this market garden, which has expanded over the years to include a variety of vegetables, pastured meat chickens, and eggs. The venture started in February 2011 with a small order of strawberries and grew to include vegetables in 2012. The farm has celebrated its 25th anniversary and continues to be a family-run operation dedicated to producing healthy, wholesome food.
Practices
All produce is grown organically, without the use of fertilizers and chemicals. The farm practices organic methods to sustain and build up the soil, working with nature rather than against it. Chickens are raised on pasture, allowing them to range outside most days of the year, which contributes to their health and the quality of their eggs and meat. The farm also raises ducks and sells duck eggs.
The Rest
The farm sells its products directly at the farm, through Broek Pork Acres Farm Store, and offers delivery for orders over $50. The main aim is to raise enough food to sell so the family can eat 'for free,' emphasizing a self-sustainable lifestyle. The farm is not certified organic but adheres to all organic practices.
