About the Farm

Background

Established in 1989 as an herb garden business, the farm initially had most of its land under tillage for corn or soybeans. In the early 2000s, it expanded into ornamental plants, adding greenhouses and display gardens, and built a new retail building in 2007. In 2015, the farm returned to its roots as a food-based business, focusing on providing fresh-picked food to the community. The farm has continued to evolve, adding a 3-acre warm-season grassland prairie in 2017 and another 3 acres in 2020, along with starting a Food Forest.

Practices

The farm employs a variety of practices to ensure the health of the land and the quality of its produce. It features over 35 raised bed vegetable and herb gardens for fresh pick harvests and a 3-acre warm-season grassland prairie with trails for educational purposes. The prairie serves as a habitat for pollinators and contributes to the local ecology. The farm also offers a wide range of vegetable and herb plants, micro-greens, and collaborates with local farmers to stock their shop with local meats, honey, maple syrup, and other products.

The Rest

The farm provides educational opportunities and internships, allowing visitors to learn about food production and sustainable farming practices. The Herb Shop offers hundreds of dried and packaged herbs and teas, along with local products like baked goods, coffee beans, soaps, lotions, and more. The farm hosts a yearly charity event in mid-May to raise awareness about the local food crisis, benefiting Helping Hands of Cass County. Visitors are encouraged to 'Get Lost in the Experience' and see firsthand how their food is produced.
