Located between Strathmore and Calgary, this family farm is dedicated to providing local, humane, and delicious duck eggs. Known for their commitment to quality and animal welfare, the farm adheres to strict local and provincial guidelines for the sale of Farm Gate Eggs.
Practices
The ducks are pasture-raised, roaming freely during the day with the protection of a guard goose named Gracie. At night, they are securely housed in a large duck house. An electric netting fence is sometimes used for additional safety. The ducks are hormone and steroid-free, never fed medicated food, and receive appropriate treatment and quarantine if they fall ill. Strict bio-security practices are maintained, including proper cleaning of equipment and no outside visitors. The feed includes a mix of commercial layer feed, oyster shell, organic wheat, and all the grass and bugs the ducks can find.
The Rest
Duck eggs are available at the Farm Gate and approved Farmer's Markets. They are larger, have a firmer white, and a larger yolk compared to chicken eggs. The price of $10 per dozen reflects the quality of feed, the amount of room the ducks have to roam, and the quality of care they receive.
