About the Farm
Background
Rancho Ojo de Agua has been in the family for over 150 years, with the last 40 years dedicated to refining their herd to produce high-quality, flavorful beef. The ranch is known for its Hereford-Charolais-Angus cross cattle, bred to ensure the integrity of bloodlines and hybrid vigor. Additionally, since 2008, they have been recycling feed bags into colorful, functional totes, contributing to waste reduction and local employment.
Practices
Cattle are born in large pastures where they graze on native forage free from fertilizers, chemicals, and pesticides. They are never confined to feedlots, never implanted with growth hormones, and never fed corn or subtherapeutic antibiotics. The beef is processed at a TDA-inspected facility in Uvalde, Texas, and is dry-aged for two weeks to enhance flavor and tenderness. The ranch also emphasizes recycling by repurposing feed bags into durable totes, using local labor and materials.
The Rest
Rancho Ojo de Agua offers hunting and fishing opportunities at Lake Amistad, with private accommodations at their Chuparrosa location. They are Go Texan certified, showcasing their Texas pride. The recycled feed-bag totes come in various styles and are made using scrap fabric from a local seatbelt factory, providing jobs in the community and reducing landfill waste.
