About the Farm

Background

Founded in 1996, this non-profit farm in Montgomery County, Maryland, has been dedicated to creating meaningful, inclusive employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Over the years, it has grown from a small operation with 12 CSA members to a thriving community with 120 members, making it the longest continuously running CSA in the county.

Practices

The farm operates on a 12-acre campus where participants cultivate vegetables on seven acres. All activities are conducted with a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship, ensuring that farming practices are in harmony with nature. The farm's CSA program supports this mission by providing organically grown vegetables, herbs, and flowers, and includes a compost program to divert food waste from landfills.

The Rest

The farm also engages area youth in small-scale farming and offers a variety of programs including education, volunteer opportunities, and field tours. The CSA program is a cornerstone of the farm, fostering a healthy and inclusive community. Members enjoy seasonal access to Pick-Your-Own flower and herb areas, and the farm partners with local providers like Compost Crew to enhance its composting efforts.
