About the Farm
Background
The ranch was first established in the late 1930s when six small ranches were combined and named the Lazy J2 Ranch. It was sold and renamed KiHeKah in 1953, then reassembled and returned to its original name in 1991. The San Rafael Valley, known for its breathtaking panoramas and undisturbed night skies, has been fiercely protected and is home to 17 threatened and endangered species. The valley has a rich history, including Apache raids and the presence of the Buffalo Soldiers of Fort Huachuca. The area is also known for its extraordinary birding spots, attracting species like the Baird Sparrow and Peregrine Falcons.
Practices
Cattle are raised on native Arizona grasses and drink pure water drawn from the Coronado Forest Aquifer. The ranch adheres to judicious stewardship and works with the NRCS to protect and improve range conditions. The cattle never see a feed-lot and are never given hormones or antibiotics. Meat is dry-aged for 21 days, and all cutting, packaging, and deliveries are overseen by the owner to maintain high standards.
The Rest
Customers are encouraged to visit the ranch with family and friends. Orders are customized with no minimums, and animals are harvested regularly to keep orders fresh. The San Rafael Valley is a listed destination by the Audubon Society and is known for its mild summers, spectacular monsoons, and rich history. The closest town is Patagonia, Arizona, approximately 10 miles away.
