About the Farm
Background
Founded in the spring of 2011, Sidewalk Ends Farm began as a 5000-square foot urban farm in Providence’s Armory Park neighborhood. Once a vacant lot, it has transformed into a hub of food production, beauty, and community education. Initially focused on a small urban plot, the farm expanded in 2014 to include two acres in Seekonk, MA, allowing for greater crop diversity and quantity.
Practices
The farm employs chemical-free farming methods, emphasizing soil health and crop diversity. They engage in seed starting, soil remediation, and urban homesteading practices. The expansion to a larger plot outside the city has enabled the farm to experiment with new crops and refine their existing varietals.
The Rest
Community education is a cornerstone of the farm's mission. They offer workshops on various agricultural topics and host visitors ranging from college classes to kindergartners. The farm sells produce at the Armory Farmers Market, through a CSA, and to local restaurants via the Little City Growers Co-op. The city hens are a beloved feature among neighbors.
