About the Farm
Background
Sunshine Farm, a third-generation family farm owned and operated by Jim and Roberta Geoghegan, has been a staple in the New England agricultural community for decades. The farm spans 100 acres and has grown to include a farm stand built in 2004, where they sell produce, ice cream, and baked goods. Known for its PYO strawberries and raspberries, the farm also hosts a Strawberry Festival in June and weekend hayrides in October. Over the years, Sunshine Farm has expanded its greenhouse space to meet the growing demand for flowering plants.
Practices
Sunshine Farm employs a variety of farming practices that blend traditional methods with modern technology. The farm offers CSA shares and PYO fruit, ensuring that customers have access to fresh, homegrown vegetables throughout the season. They place a strong emphasis on educating and training young farmers, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the evolving landscape of modern agriculture. The farm's practices are designed to deliver crops from seed to harvest efficiently while maintaining a connection to their agricultural roots.
The Rest
Sunshine Farm is open from May to December, offering a wide range of activities and products throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy fresh-baked cookies, breads, fruit pies, and sweet corn pizza, as well as premium hard ice cream at their service windows. The farm also carries a unique line of gourmet preserves, salad dressings, cheeses, fresh eggs, and Nashoba Brook bread. Seasonal highlights include bedding plants and Mother's Day baskets in May, sweet corn and tomatoes in July, and a bountiful fall harvest of root crops, pumpkins, and PYO apples in September and October. The farm also offers Thanksgiving pies in November and Christmas trees and marshmallows by the fire in December. Sunshine Farm provides a relaxing environment for families to enjoy PYO outings, ice cream treats, and the natural farm setting.
