West Star Organics

West Star Organics, originally West Star Farm LLC, is one of the oldest and largest certified organic growers of spring starter plants in Wisconsin. The 40-acre property in Cottage Grove, WI, has been certified organic since the inception of the National Organic Program in 1999. George and Sandy Kohn bought the farm in 1993 and began organically managing the soil. In 2004, Randy and Tanya Kohn, along with their three daughters, took a more active role in the farm's management. The business transitioned to focus solely on greenhouse and nursery operations in 2012, expanding their greenhouse capacity and creating a Garden Center Market on the farm.

The farm is committed to organic growing principles and practices, managing the land sustainably and with respect. They use their own formulated growing mix and take extra measures to strengthen their plants, ensuring they are the highest quality, strongest, and healthiest certified organic plants available. The farm operates with integrity, honesty, and responsibility, and is dedicated to supporting their customers and the community.

Visitors can explore the wooded walking trail, old farmhouse, barn with a silo, and the 1-acre greenhouses on the nutrient-rich clay loamy soil. The farm offers a diverse selection of vegetable, herb, flower, and fruit plants, and can be found at the Dane County Farmers' Market, Westside Community Market, and local retailers. The Kohn family is passionate about helping gardeners succeed and enjoy the fruits of their labor, providing support and answering any questions that arise.
