About the Farm
Background
The orchard sits on land that was once a typical Norwegian-American dairy farm dating back to the early 1800s. The farmhouse, dating to 1860, has sheltered the family since the orchard opened its doors in 1984. Known for its fall fruit and cider, the orchard provides a quiet place to enjoy nature and escape urban life.
Practices
The agricultural philosophy rests strongly on sustainable farming and integrated pest management. The family-run orchard strives to produce quality and healthful crops with minimum environmental impact.
The Rest
Open from late August/September through November, the orchard offers pick-your-own and pre-picked options for apples. Fresh apple cider is squeezed once a week, and bees provide honey and beeswax candles. Recently, a herd of sheep was added, offering locally grown lamb and wool. Visitors frequently express that they have 'gotten away' despite being less than 10 minutes from Madison and a little over 1 hour from Milwaukee.
