About the Farm

Background

Common Thread has established itself as a vital part of the Central New York community, providing fresh, seasonal produce through a CSA model. Located in Madison, the farm offers various share sizes and types, including summer, fall, full season, and winter shares. Over the years, it has become known for its high-quality vegetables and strong community connections, drawing members from multiple nearby towns and cities.

Practices

Common Thread employs sustainable growing methods, emphasizing soil health through a permanent raised bed tillage system and a five-year crop rotation. They plant cover crops on about a third of the farm each year and use compost to enrich the soil. The farm strictly avoids synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, GMOs, irradiation, and sewage sludge. This commitment to sustainable practices ensures that all vegetables are grown with the utmost care for the land and the health of their members.

The Rest

Common Thread offers a sliding scale payment system and a sponsored share program to make their CSA accessible to all income levels. They also accept EBT payments and provide payment plans. Members can enjoy pick-your-own crops like cherry tomatoes, raspberries, cut flowers, beans, peas, and herbs. The farm fosters community through weekly emails, farm events, and volunteer opportunities. They also acknowledge the Oneida People, who have historically stewarded the land.
