About the Farm
Background
Started in 2003, Forbidden Fruit has grown to produce plump, fresh organic blueberries on six acres in northern Santa Barbara County. Known for their early spring crops, they have become a favorite among blueberry lovers. The farm also offers award-winning estate wines that reflect the cool climate and sandy soil of the region.
Practices
The blueberries are certified organic and hand-picked almost every day during the season, which lasts most of the year. The cool air from the Pacific Ocean allows the berries to ripen slowly, preserving their flavors. The farm's winemaking practices are influenced by traditional French methods, focusing on preserving natural acids to create balanced wines with low alcohol and sulfites.
The Rest
Visitors can tour the farm and participate in wine tastings by appointment. The farm offers a variety of products including blueberries, jams, syrup, applesauce, and olive oil. Tastings are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with a minimum purchase requirement. The farm's produce and wines can also be found at Los Angeles Farmers Markets.
