About the Farm

Background

Established in 2009, Forest Hills Tuv HaAretz CSA has grown from a passionate initiative by its founders, including Hila Abel, into a thriving community resource. Despite initial uncertainties, the CSA quickly attracted a substantial membership, which has continued to expand over the years. Key figures like Felicia Seidel have played a significant role in its development, contributing to its operations and community engagement.

Practices

The CSA partners with local farms, such as Norwich Meadows Farm, to provide members with organic produce. Members can choose between weekly or bi-weekly shares, and the season runs from June to mid-November. Add-on shares for items like fruit, eggs, mushrooms, and organic beans and grains are also available. The CSA emphasizes community involvement and supports local agriculture through its structured membership model.

The Rest

The CSA is inclusive, welcoming both Jewish and non-Jewish members. Pick-ups are organized on Wednesdays, with flexible timing options. The CSA also fosters a sense of community through volunteer opportunities and social interactions during pick-ups. Felicia Seidel, a long-time volunteer, is known for her enthusiasm and engagement with members, often sharing recipes and tips. The CSA's website is a key resource for information and registration, although it may occasionally experience downtime.
