About the Farm

Background

The Fredericksburg Area CSA Project, established in 1997, is Fredericksburg's first CSA, dedicated to providing members with organic food from local farmers. The project was founded with a commitment to food purity and continues to prioritize this mission. The CSA supports local organic food producers within a 100-mile radius of Fredericksburg, with most farms located within 50 miles.

Practices

The CSA sources produce from several local farms, all of which meet or exceed national organic standards. The cooperative model includes a range of farms, from urban gardens to larger operations. The CSA emphasizes building a community between organic farmers and members, fostering connections and supporting local agriculture. The weekly shares include a diverse assortment of freshly harvested organic produce, occasionally supplemented with items like local organic raw honey, handmade soap, and biologically-grown apple cider.

The Rest

The CSA offers two share sizes for the 20-week summer harvest season, running from June through October. Members can join a private Facebook community group to share recipes and news. The CSA also hosts an annual members' meeting, weekly distributions, occasional potluck dinners, and social media interactions to connect members and farmers. Payments for shares can be made by check or Venmo, with detailed instructions provided on the website.
