About the Farm
Background
For over 20 years, the farm was certified 'organic' by various certifiers including NFA, NOFA, OCIA, and Greenmarket. Despite choosing not to be certified by the USDA, the farm continues to adhere to rigorous organic standards that surpass governmental requirements.
Practices
The farm generates its own fertility through a crop rotation system that emphasizes green manure and fallow periods over production. This fertility is complemented with ground rocks, fish, and seaweed products when necessary. Ecological cycles are encouraged to control pests naturally, and zone tillage is used to minimize disruptions to the living soil. Numerous crops are grown for seed production, selected for farm-specific traits, and grains are integrated into rotations to support a small flock of seasonally pastured laying hens.
The Rest
Products from the farm are available at farmers markets in Liberty, NY, Union Square, NY, through their CSA, and at selected local restaurants.
