About the Farm

Background

GreenView Aquaponics Family Farm and Apiary is a small family farm known for its innovative use of commercial aquaponics systems, heritage breed poultry, and natural beekeeping practices. The farm offers a variety of fresh produce, including microgreens, herbs, salad crops, gourmet greens, edible fruits and flowers, and heirloom vegetables. Additionally, the farm sells farm-fresh eggs and honey-related products.

Practices

The farm employs a hybrid aquaponics system that includes media beds, deep water culture, Dutch buckets, and vertical systems. They grow and breed Blue Nile Tilapia, Red Nile Tilapia, and Koi in conjunction with various plants. All plants are started using non-GMO seeds and chemical-free practices. The chickens, including Rhode Island Red and Auraucana breeds, are raised in chicken tractors with non-GMO feed and are kept safe from predators. The farm also practices natural beekeeping, avoiding sugar water and pesticides. Integrated pest management is used, excluding all fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, antibiotics, and hormones.

The Rest

The farm offers tours on the first Saturday of each month and various classes on homesteading, beekeeping, aquaponics, and sustainable living throughout the year. Visitors are encouraged to check the events calendar on the farm's website or Eventbrite. Fresh tilapia, pastured poultry, and aerated worm tea are available for purchase, and visitors are advised to bring their own containers and contact the farm before visiting.
