About the Farm

Background

Located in Bokeelia on the north side of Pine Island in Southwest Florida, the farm benefits from a unique climate that supports the growth of tropical and subtropical exotic fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables year-round. Known as Pine Island's only year-round grower of gourmet greens and sprouts, the farm also offers seasonal tropical fruits and vegetables. The property includes tropical fruit and nut trees such as avocado, papaya, mango, carambola, macadamia, lychee, and citrus, along with collections of bromeliads, orchids, tropical plants, and clumping bamboos.

Practices

The farm follows principles of natural growing, fortifying in-ground gardens with manures, mulch, and cover crops. Hydroponic systems use self-formulated, all-natural nutrient solutions. Chickens are raised cage-free with penned areas to range and are fed a home-blended diet free of corn, soy, or modified grains. Minimal use of naturally derived pesticides is practiced, and the farm's irrigation pond supports ducks and a goose, contributing to the farm's ecosystem.

The Rest

The farm is home to The Sprout Queen, specializing in sprouts, sprouting supplies, sunflower greens, pea shoots, and wheatgrass. Visitors are welcome by appointment on specific days, with tours available for a small fee. Fresh produce, starter plants, and soil amendments can be purchased directly from the farm or at local farmers markets. The farm's products are also featured in local restaurants.
