About the Farm
Background
Labor of Love Flower Farm is located in Victor, New York, located between Bloomfield and Farmington, and about a half hour southeast of Rochester. The farm is situated on 70 acres of glacial terrain, featuring hills, valleys, and a bisecting stream. Originally an old dairy farm with a house and barn dating back to 1830, the farm has been transformed into a diversified operation. Amy and Jaret Knickerbocker, the owners, met at a farmers' market in 2014 and have since combined their passions for flowers and cattle farming. Their journey from a memorable first date to marriage and farming together is a testament to their shared dedication and love for the land.
Practices
The farm employs diversified farming practices, making productive use of the land by growing flowers and raising beef cattle. The soil, enriched by glacial deposits, supports a variety of blooms, particularly dahlias. The farm benefits from ample rainfall, contributing to the health and vibrancy of the flowers. Additionally, adjacent land is leased for hay production, ensuring a sustainable feed source for the cattle. The old barn is being renovated to include a new workspace for flower processing, a cooler for fresh-cut flowers, and storage for tubers and farming equipment.
The Rest
Bulk flowers are available to wholesale customers and at the farm stand in Victor. Dahlia tubers are sold online from December to May, catering to gardening enthusiasts. The farm offers over 50 varieties of dahlias, inviting garden club members to join spring meetings to learn and share the joy of growing these beautiful flowers. The farm's picturesque location and commitment to quality make it a beloved source of local blooms in the Finger Lakes region.
