About the Farm
Background
Leelanau Specialty Cut Flowers, also known as Perbellus Flower Farm, began its journey when Michelle, a plant lover, and her husband Andrew purchased their home on 5 acres in Cedar, Michigan in November 2012. The farm has evolved over the years, embracing the concept of CSA and cut flower farming about five years ago. Now in its fourth season, the farm has become known for its beautiful flowers and commitment to local markets.
Practices
The farm operates using organic principles, placing a strong emphasis on soil health and creating a natural habitat for birds and insects. They focus on responsible farming practices that enhance the land's fertility and support biodiversity. The farm also plans to integrate maple syrup production, and raise chickens, ducks, rabbits, and goats to provide food and fertilizer.
The Rest
The farm features a tillable acre on the property and leases an additional acre nearby. They have plans for a wildlife sanctuary to support beneficial birds and insects, and aim to host small farm events and classes. The farm also engages in winter planning, preparing for the upcoming season with meticulous organization and a focus on continuous improvement.
