About the Farm
Background
Charles Allis and his brother John left England in 1883, surviving a shipwreck before arriving in America. After various ventures, Charles settled in Monument in 1887, operating a meat market and buying and selling cattle. In 1908, he constructed the Allis Reservoir, which remains visible today. Charles married Minnie Steimle and built a log cabin for his family in 1911. The Allis family expanded their home and continued ranching, raising milk cows and Hampshire sheep. Charles was a pioneer in using a silo for feed storage and opened a meat market in Arvada in 1922. After Charles's death in 1927, Minnie and her children continued the ranching legacy. Suzanne and Dwight purchased the Historic Allis Ranch in 2016, preserving its name and legacy. The ranch is now protected by a conservation easement adjoining Greenland Open Space.
Practices
The ranch adheres to organic, free-range, and GMO-free practices. They avoid the use of hormones and chemicals, ensuring their products are naturally and humanely raised. The farm emphasizes the interconnectedness of healthy land management and high-quality produce, focusing on sustainable and diverse farming methods.
The Rest
The ranch offers herdshares for raw milk from Nubian goats and Jersey cows, farm fresh eggs, raw local honey, goat milk soaps and lotions. They also conduct ranch camps, tours, and educational workshops. The ranch's products have received positive feedback from customers, particularly for their raw goat's milk.
