About the Farm
Background
Life Enrichment Sciences (LE Sciences) was started in November of 2012 by Benjamin Gorrell and Andrew Gardiner after their medical retirement from the U.S. Army. They began construction of their 3000 sq/ft. greenhouse in February 2013 to address the need for healthier food and a more sustainable agricultural system. By March 2014, they expanded their operations to include a year-round farmer's market store, Pure Harvest Market, where they sell their produce.
Practices
Using a system known as aquaponics, LE Sciences grows open-pollinated, non-GMO, organic produce year-round. Aquaponics integrates fish farming and plant cultivation in a symbiotic environment, where fish waste provides an organic nutrient source for the plants, and the plants help to filter and clean the water for the fish. This closed-loop system minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency, ensuring a sustainable method of food production.
