About the Farm
Background
Founded with a mission to provide low impact, high nutrient foods, this business is known for cultivating Pacific Dulse Seaweed. The team comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, including commercial fishing, coastal conservation, marine sciences, research, education, and culinary arts, all working together to positively influence coastal communities.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative aquaculture methods, growing seaweed in a land-based system that requires only fresh seawater and sunshine. This approach is carbon-negative, sequestering one pound of carbon for every four pounds of seaweed grown. No pesticides, fresh water, fuels, or other harmful practices are used, making it a minimal input farming system.
The Rest
Dulse seaweed is a complete protein, rich in essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals such as potassium, iodine, calcium, iron, vitamins A and C, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. The seaweed is available at local grocery retailers along the Oregon Coast, in the Portland metro and Hood River area, and in Seattle. It can also be delivered directly to homes or through local co-op deliveries. The farm pays living wages and empowers employees to be proactive and creative, fostering a collaborative work environment.
