About the Market
Background
Corvallis-Albany Farmers' Markets, a farmer-led nonprofit, has been a cornerstone of the local food community, operating outdoor markets in Corvallis and Albany. With a membership of over 110 small family-scale farms from six counties, the markets have become known for their diverse selection of local Willamette Valley produce and farm products. The organization has a long-standing commitment to enhancing access to high-quality, local food for all community members, deeply engaging in nutrition programs that promote food justice and equity.
Practices
Farm direct marketing at these markets ensures a direct link between consumers and producers, prohibiting resale and promoting transparency and traceability. The few non-grown vendors are held to high standards of local sourcing. The markets feature a wide selection of organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, nursery plants, and herbs. Sustainable meat and poultry options are expanding as more farmers focus on quality over quantity.
The Rest
The markets operate for a 32-week season from mid-April to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, with additional bonus markets in December. Larger farmers use covered growing methods to extend the season. The Corvallis Saturday market is held near Riverfront Commemorative Park, while the Albany market is located in the City Hall parking lot and adjacent street. A separate organization runs the Corvallis Indoor Winter Market, ensuring local food availability for 46-47 weeks a year.
