About the Farm
Background
Eric grew up on the farm, moved away to pursue a career as a stone mason, and eventually returned to Pennsylvania with his family. The farm, originally 200 acres and sitting idle after his parents retired, was revitalized when Eric decided to focus on market gardening and maple syrup production. The farm's maple syrup business began by tapping trees in the front yard and boiling sap in a copper kettle. After purchasing a friend's maple syrup business and recipes, the farm expanded its product offerings.
Practices
The farm practices regenerative agriculture, ensuring that more is given back to the land than taken from it. Draft horses are used for farm work and to produce manure that enriches the soil. Sheep are pastured for meat, and the farm also raises grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, and eggs. The farm's maple syrup production utilizes large stands of maple trees in the woods.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of maple products, including Maple Mustard and Maple Wing Sauce, and has developed specialties like Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. An orchard planted in 2015 aims to provide a variety of fruits. The farm participates in the Northwest Pennsylvania Growers Cooperative CSA and operates a seasonal store at Grove City Premium Outlets from October to January, featuring local artisan products.
