About the Farm
Background
In 2014, a family decided to re-settle a neglected 15-acre farm in Franklin County, Virginia, and restore the old farmhouse that previously gave it life. The property, shaped like a rabbit’s head, became the foundation for their farming journey. Initially driven by a quest for uncommonly good ingredients, they began raising livestock and expanding garden space. Over time, their vision for a pasture-based farm emerged and solidified.
Practices
Rotational grazing is the centerpiece of their farming methods. Animals are raised on pasture and supplemented with locally-grown, non-GMO feed as necessary. The farm emphasizes regenerating and revitalizing the land, ensuring that they put more into the soil than they take out. This approach is rooted in the belief that healthy soil leads to prosperity for everyone connected with the farm.
The Rest
The farm's philosophy is influenced by thinkers like Masanobu Fukuoka and Wendell Berry, emphasizing the interconnectedness of farming, family, and community. The old farmhouse has been restored from the foundation up, symbolizing the renewal and ongoing commitment to their vision.
