About the Farm
Background
In 2001, the founders set out to revive their grandfather’s oyster company during a time when the Chesapeake Bay recorded its lowest oyster harvest in history. Nearly all oysters processed in the Bay were being trucked in from the Gulf of Mexico, and the local industry was on the brink of collapse. Their mission was to resurrect the native Bay oyster and restore its prominence. Over a decade later, Virginia now leads the East Coast in oyster production, thanks to a collective effort of farmers, chefs, patrons, activists, and politicians. The Chesapeake Bay has reclaimed its place among the great oyster regions of the world.
Practices
The company focuses on sustainability and community-driven efforts. Their practices emphasize the interconnectedness of farming methods, ecology, and human health. By prioritizing purpose over profit, they have contributed to the resurgence of the Chesapeake Bay oyster industry.
The Rest
In 2011, they expanded into the restaurant business to create venues that bring together like-minded individuals who value good food and community. They offer a variety of oysters and clams, sauces and condiments, and other related products through their online store. Their mission extends beyond oysters to celebrating good people doing great things.
