About the Farm

Background

Tulmeadow Farm has been family-owned and operated since 1768. Known for its heirloom tomatoes, baby greens, and other small vegetable crops, the farm has expanded its offerings over the years to include grassfed beef and award-winning ice cream. The farmstore, which carries fresh, locally made products, has become a community staple. The farm also engages in forestry operations, a practice dating back to its original ownership in the 1700s.

Practices

Tulmeadow Farm employs non-GMO farming methods and raises grassfed beef. The farm uses greenhouses to grow early-season crops like tomatoes, baby greens, peppers, and cucumbers. Forestry operations are managed under a certified forestry plan, focusing on sustainable timber harvests to promote forest regeneration and wildlife habitat. The farm's commitment to quality extends to their CSA program, which began in 2011.

The Rest

The farmstore offers a variety of products, including fresh produce, dairy alternatives, local honey, and homemade ice cream novelties. Seasonal items such as bedding plants and Christmas trees are also available. The farm's hiking trails are open to the public, and the forest management practices aim to benefit both the ecosystem and the community. Tulmeadow Farm's ice cream has been recognized as the best in Connecticut by Hartford Magazine in 2010.
